Constant Up and Down

I’m pleased to announce that I start my new job on Monday.  Unfortunately things are at a catch-22 right now.  I know for sure that I’ll be bringing in about $2,000 a month with everything I have going on.  At the same time, however, it just doesn’t seem to want to come in the way I need it to.

I woke up yesterday to see a load of green slime under Sean’s front right tire.  Knowing that we already had the water pump replaced, it obviously has to come from another source.  So today Lucy took me over to NAPA so I could get some antifreeze to fill the leak, and then when my neighbor showed up I ran right up to him and asked for help.  He sent me up to a guy in Sea Cliff with the goal of having a pressure test done so we can find out where the leak is coming from exactly.  We were happy to find out that the guy took us right away and threw the car up on the list.  After a little bit of waiting he came back and we were then told that we’re going to need a new radiator and a new set of some kind of tubes.  We explained that this is the third radiator in the car (since it’s purchase) and he was dumbfounded as to what’s going on.  We left it with him (thank god for Lucy today, she really helped us out) and we’ll know tomorrow why things are as screwed up as they are.

So basically, Sean and I were just getting ahead on the bills and now it’s to the point where we’re so far behind it’s absurd.  This job is going to set us back a few hundred dollars and then I need to scrape money together in order to prepare for work over the course of the upcoming week.  We also need to put money aside so that we can rent a UHaul and pick up our stuff from Delaware.  It’s a never-ending cycle of annoyance these days - I’ll tell you that much.

So happy…

I don’t think that today could have gone any better. Sean and I were able to get the car fixed at $100 less than the original quote. We then hung out around the house for a little while. Dad, Sean and I went out to dinner at some diner that used to be an IHOP. After taking the long way home (half hour detour of just traveling around with the windows out on the jeep) we basically just relaxed and enjoyed the ride.

I have everything up and running with AGn Solutions. The new hosting plans are in place, the new pricing is in place, and thank god for the new company I’m going through because I now have a proper billing system that should help to keep everything running at ship-shape. Now all I need to do is push the advertising on it a bit more, but money talks so of course that will have to show up before anything. I have been able to figure out how to integrate things to another provider in regards to email management so I should be able to stay on top of things a lot better than I’ve been able to in the past.

So everything just seems to be looking up right now.

I’m working on a few things here as far as content goes. I’d like to finally get some of the templates up that I’ve been working on for the past few months, so we’ll see how much I can accomplish there. Maybe I’ll be able to finally come up with something that I like enough to publish to the rest of the world. I was contacted about sponsorships but I never responded due to my lack of creativity for the templates that they’re willing to sponsor.

Either way something will be done soon. I do have a lot of pictures to go through as well, there are a few creative entries that I’d like to throw up here as well.

A lot to do but no drive to do it - story of my life.

Spark of Inspiration

I don’t know if it’s due to the fact that I’m back in New York, or if it’s because I have the drive to make enough money to move back up here - but - I’ve had no trouble finding inspiration for new templates.  Maybe it’s the change of scenery, I don’t know.  I just know that I’ve spent the last 12 hours or so working on the new template for AGn Solutions, this way when everything is up and running I can work in the new billing/support software and go from there.

I really can’t wait to get everything transferred over.  I have to say that this eCheck business is bugging the crap out of me, but that was my own fault - I didn’t click the right button and now I’m going to have to figure out how to go about fixing it in the future.  I can’t change it now because the initial payment hasn’t cleared yet but come Monday morning I’ll be jumping for joy as I’m creating all of the back-ups and getting all of the DNS transferred over to the new company.

I’m changing things up a bit, and I’m bringing back Reseller accounts because off the increase in room.  I’m offering up enough resources where I can really do some serious business so hopefully my advertising efforts pay off.

While I’ve been in New York I’ve been searching around numerous Job Search websites and I’ve submitted my application to a couple of businesses here on the Island.  The ‘dream job’ might not actually come through but I can understand why the company wouldn’t want to shell out $70,000 a year on someone with no college degree.  Either way I’ll wait until I hear something from anyone before I get too excited.  I just really would love to be back up here and that’s something that a one-week stay has proven to me.

I miss New York.  I miss the congestion, and the rude people.  I miss the fantastic food and the fact that I know more people in town than I ever thought I did while I was up here.  Sure, you don’t think about it when you were up here for 20 years but if you just go through the supermarket and you’re stopped by old friends and family that you haven’t seen in a long time - it really takes it toll on you.  You realize just how much you’ve missed over the years.

Sure, Delaware is great.  I love Sean, I love the complex we’re living in but it doesn’t feel like “home” to me - not the way that New York does.  Even Sean seems to have more inspiration up here, on top of the concentration he’s been able to find.  Unfortunately he’s under the weather - so he really hasn’t done very much in the past 24 hours (work wise) but it’s easy to lose that new found concentration when you’re heavily congested and it hurts to swallow.

I think he has an ear infection, he claims it’s just his throat, but somethings telling me that it’s a little stronger than that.  I’d like to get him to the hospital but with the way New York works, you’re better off losing your ear before you want to sit in a damn E.R.. See, in Delaware when I went for my nasty abscess I was shot with all kinds of pain killers and loaded up with antibiotics.  It only cost me $125 - and yes that cost is with ZERO medical insurance.  Up here in New York? The same treatment would run about $1,200 for someone with no insurance.  Who the hell has that kind of money?  Thankfully the last time I got really sick up here (my first ever ear infection that went down my ear canal and took over the left side of my neck) I was still under my father’s Medical Insurance from the same hospital (he works there) so since hospital employees tend to get first priority (as do their children) it didn’t cost me a dime - I was fully covered. We did get the bill though, if we had to pay out of picket it would have been about $2500.

So yea, we’re obviously not going to go up here, but maybe I’ll be able to rummage through the cabinets and pick up something for him.  I want to get some ear-drops from the store but my usual 24-hour hotspot up here is no longer 24-hours.  Oh well…I’m sure I’ll figure something out.

In any event, it’s knocking on 3am - guess I should get to bed.

Busy, Busy Day!

Over the course of the next couple of hours I hope to be able to stick to the schedule I set for myself last night. Sean and I are leaving about 10PM to conquor the long commute to Long Island. My father’s birthday is on the 26th, my sister’s on the 29th. My point of action is to get up there to get them taken care of on their birthday, to have some much needed R&R in my home town and to get in touch with friends and family that I really haven’t seen since I moved down here. I have to visit my grandmother and my aunts because I didn’t even see them for Christmas this past year, and to cover the other side of the family I’m having dinner at dad’s house on his birthday.

Today’s goals are pretty simple, they’re just tedious. I need to pack, that’s something I haven’t even started yet but thankfully being the list queen that I am, I know exactly what to pack, how much to pack and what’s going to actually fit in the car. The first things to be loaded in are basically any and everything that will fit in the trunk. This will allow me to have enough room in the backseat for Dad’s (rather large) gift, the computers and some pillows. I moved down here with them but since we purchased the new bed (last summer) I bought new pillows for it so I’ll bring my older ones home (which were really only used for six months so they’re in great condition, and I’ll be able to leave them up there so I no longer have to sleep on a blanket stuffed inside of a pillow case. Granted, it’s very soft, but real pillows are always great to have.

I have some shopping to do as well. There are a few last-minute things that need to be picked up. I’m making a run to Candy Kitchen to pick up some fudge for my father, sister and aunt and then there’s a stop at the liquor store to pick up a bottle of wine and maybe some other things. I may just wind up picking that stuff up in New York but I guess we’ll see what happens when I actually start moving.

I woke up about two hours ago. I still have to take a shower and straighten up the house a little bit but my breakdown is as follows:

  • Shower
  • Do my hair / make-up
  • Shopping for last minute gifts
  • Shopping for supplies for the trip up
  • Getting gas
  • Stop at the bank
  • Pick up the mail, and send out a letter
  • Packing
  • Cooking Dinner
  • Packing
  • Loading Car
  • 4 1/2 hour drive to NY starting at 10PM

It’s safe to say that the next 9 hours are going to be pretty busy. Sean and I do intend to take some time to ourselves to go out to dinner tonight so we’re driving up on full stomachs to keep us awake. I bought a cooler a few weeks ago at Happy Harry’s (Walgreens) for $5. It holds about 16 cans of Soda (supposedly) so the fudge I’m picking up for family plus a few bottles of water will be a staple in the car so we can stay hydrated. I’m making the first half of the trip and when we stop somewhere on the New Jersey Turnpike we’ll use the bathroom and switch roles. He’ll take over the remainder of the trip, so he’ll be sleeping the first half considering driving through Delaware is the most boring part of the trip. For me it’ll be easy because I’m not ready to take on the Southern State Parkway on Long Island so driving the boring aspect of things is just good enough for me.

Guess I should get my ass in gear.

Moved

If you can read this then you’re looking at krissyville.net being loaded from a new data center.  I was sick and tired of the previous service, it was always down and over the course of the last few months I’ve had some pretty heated arguments with Tony so that’s put a damper on business through the company.  I’ve found a new host that comes highly regarded and I’m in the process of getting everything moved over.  For the sake of DNS I had to transfer over all of my personal stuff first, and then I’ll go and work on the clients.  I’m unable to find any files for krissy.nu which is why that site is currently down.  I do have a back-up and I’m manually restoring it.  I believe my hefty Wordpress database had a lot to do with it.  While I only publish two years worth of archives, there’s about 5 years worth and it covers about 1,000MB, so I’m downsizing quite a bit and we’ll see where things go from there.

I’ve got a horrible cold, to the point that I can’t really concentrate on much of anything.  It started out as a sore throat which came on instantly but only half of my throat was scratchy, I wound up falling asleep and by the time I’d woken up my entire throat was sore.  The following day it turned into some pretty nasty chest congestion and now I’m dealing with the nasal end of things and I’ve just taken a strong dose of antibiotics because I honestly can’t focus on anything.  I feel as though my head is going to explode which typically means the infection is heading north.  I also have a pretty high fever, I think it was 103.something.  At the same time, I have double vision so who knows what number actually showed up on that little digital output.

I think it’s time to get back to bed.
